Just as an exercise, I ported your bash script to a python plugin. To
have this integrate properly, you have to have the bzr-plugin patches
that I mentioned earlier. (It can be run standalone if you are careful).
It also is able to update itself (using a regular http download), and
you should be able to supply the update url.
In the future it could be extended to do more than just rsync. But
honestly it is probably more worthwhile to get branch/merge working, and
then if there is a .bzr/parent file just doing "bzr merge" should bring
you up to date.
