I think it would be equally easy for them to run a smart server
written in Python as to run an sftp server written in Python.  (Well,
except that one exists now and the other doesn't.)  Indeed in many
ways it might be preferable since they wouldn't have to (as I recall)
put knowledge into the sftp server about the stylized ways Arch uses
SFTP.
