My two pence:

I wouldn't say that Bazaar-NG is useful for newbies at the moment. It's
even stated on the web pages that it shouldn't be used for any important
work (besides maybe Bazaar-NG itself).

I would agree that Arch/Bazaar is somewhat difficult to pick as the
first version control system. I'd suggest to go for SVN. It's easy to
set up, the concepts are quite simple. You will probably not run into
any of its limitiations anytime soon, and by the time you do you'll have
a much easier time picking up Arch/Bazaar (or Monotone). Chances are
that Bazaar-NG is mature enough by then.

I assume you are implying that CVS is obsolete. It sure isn't! It isn't
the best system there is, but it's still the most used one in OSS. If
you are going to contribute to OSS projects chances are you need to
become familiar with it. However, you are probably better off starting
with SVN.

Software is not manufactured, it is something you write and publish.
Keep Europe free from software patents, we do not want censorship
by patent law on written works.

In my opinion, shareware tends to combine the worst of commercial software
(no sources) with the worst of free software (no finishing touches). I
simply do not believe in the shareware market at all.
