Alright, trying again, this time with my mail settings to actually send
as plain text, and with some more detail.

I am running Ubuntu 16.04, with a mainline 4.14 kernel.

When I start up pidgin, I get an oops:

This is fully reproducible.

And pidgin ends up as an unkillable zombie.

Now, doing an strace has it die just as it is trying to send SIG_0 to ibus:

15013 inotify_add_watch(18, "/home/warp/.config/ibus/bus",
IN_MODIFY|IN_ATTRIB|IN_CLOSE_WRITE|IN_MOVED_FROM|IN_MOVED_TO|IN_CREATE|IN_DELETE|IN_DELETE_SELF|IN_MOVE_SELF|IN_UNMOUNT|IN_ONLYDIR)
= 9
15013
open("/home/warp/.config/ibus/bus/3b45bc17f55f90122dc8bf755324f212-unix-1",
O_RDONLY) = 20
15013 fstat(20, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0664, st_size=173, ...}) = 0
15013 read(20, "# This file is created by ibus-daemon, please do not
modify
it\nIBUS_ADDRESS=unix:abstract=/tmp/ibus/dbus-UnLRjNpU,guid=b07651df439999692fb3b57e5a13b00e\nIBUS_DAEMON_PID=9787\n",
4096) = 173
15013 read(20, "", 4096) = 0
15013 close(20) = 0
15013 kill(9787, SIG_0 <unfinished ...>

And the other threads die shortly afterwards.

Granting an explicit permission to send signals does not help.

As a short term work around, disabling access to @{HOME}/.config/ibus in
/etc/apparmor.d/local/usr.bin.pidgin keeps it from even trying to go
down the path, but that isn't really a fix.

Please let me know if there are any additional details that would be
helpful, or if there is a patch that you would like me to try.

Thank you,
Zephaniah E. Loss-Cutler-Hull.
