Icons in /usr/share/icons/hicolor

Hi all,

I would like to propose dropping the requirement of having icons
installed in /opt.

We have a really nice framework in place for icons that I don't think
any other propriety platform has. We have icon themes and these themes
ships icons for most of the popular apps out there. This enables easy
customization but unfortunately apps submitted through ARB can't take
advantage of this feature as the .desktop files have to contain a hard
coded path to the icons instead of an icon name to search for in the
current theme.

I suggest allowing ARB apps to ships with icons in
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/*/apps/ by the name 'extras-appname.ext'.

The .desktop file would look something like this

    [Desktop Entry]
    Name=Gmail
    Exec=/opt/extras.ubuntu.com/gmail/bin/gmail
    Icon=gmail

This will make the desktop pick up the icon for 'gmail' from the
current theme and fall back to 'extras-gmail' (provided by app) in
case current theme doesn't ship with an icon for 'gmail'.

Is there any chance we can relax the conditions here a bit?

Thanks!
