After ATI UPDATE ....LOGIN PROBLEMS.

Yesterday I installed the flgrx-driver and ran the sed....command as
in the binary how to instructions.  Rebooted to check, everything
worked ...seemingly.  Changed my modelines by hand to regain my
desired resolution.
Today when I login on to the gdm in puts up my desktop and then hangs.
I can ctrl+alt+backspace out to the console.  
I assume it is an issue with the damn ati driver.
Should I remove it?
How?
