Hoary Updates

I just updated to Hoary.  I have a few problems.

Even though I updated my locale to UTF8, when I open synaptics it says:

Another problem already mentioned before was that I was unable to use my
imap accounts under Evolution 2.1.0.  Changing "never use secure
connection" solved it.

One thing that I am not being able to solve is that evolution cannot
access gmane newsgroups any more.  It says "Cannot authenticate to
server: 502 Authentication error"

Any ideas how to solve this?
