The extension that provides support for the sound menu should also handle the notifications.
Do you get the notifications with the sound menu extension activated and the notification area and app-indicator extensions disabled ?

Bug description:
Binary package hint: banshee

Currently, the banshee extension for using Ubuntu's notifyosd displays is tied
into the extension for the Application Indicator. It's not possible to disable
the application indicator without losing notifyosd notifications at the same
time.

This is a limitation now that banshee supports Ubuntu's sound menu integration.
I'd like to remove the banshee icon from the application indicator tray, since
I can access all it's functionality through the sound menu now, but i'd also
like to keep the notifyosd notifications.
