I figured out the problem.  gstreamer0.8-esd was not installed on my
system.  Once that was installed, everything works fine.  It seems as
though much of gstreamer0.8 is not installed and without much of it,
muine is just about useless.   I'm guessing this is because most other
apps have switched to 0.10 and 0.8 isn't installed by default anymore.
I would think that muine needs to have its dependency information
updated.

Since esd is the default sound sink, a dep on gstreamer0.8-esd would be
appropriate with a recommends on gstreamer0.8-plugins. Thanks.
