One thing that I can see potentially confusing new users is the
interaction between the eject button on the CD/DVD drive and Ubuntu. If
a cd is in use or has been in use, the button tends not to work (this
happens on both my machines so I assume it's not hardware specific) and
the user has to click Right Click --> Eject on the mounted drive.
Would it be possible for this to be fixed in Dapper, should I file a
bug?
>
>

This is the behaviour in os x - it does take some getting used to but it is not that hard.
in os x finder - it has next to the drive icon an eject button. it also
has one in the finder menu next to the drive. This could be done in the
places menu.
Also os x has a shortcut for it - in its case Cmd+E
