Serious regression in daily build: Breezy hangs on start

Today, I felt like trying the 2005-09-02 daily build on my Dell Latitude X1.

After the usual questions (language, location and keyboard) and
text-mode boot, shiny new usplash appeared and was looking ok. The
splash screen displayed some progress messages that were displayed in
the text-mode earlier, until it suddenly dropped back into text-mode at
"Entering Runlevel 2".

Some seconds later, GDM could not start. This time, its message is
"Cannot run in framebuffer mode". After answering the dialogs, no login
and no shell would appear. The last message on screen is "Checking
battery state".

I can't send you any logfiles because I have no control over the
machine. It did react to a short press of the power button though, which
shut the machine down a couple of seconds later.

The X1 is equipped with an i915GMS.

What should I do? This is a really bad regression, compared to Hoary and
Colony 3 (the latter could not start GDM either but presented my a
prompt so I could correct the configuration error).

Regards,

Andreas
